Jin Myung-Ja

Abstract
Although previous studies have supported the positive psychological impact of mental fitness programs for patients with mental illness, research on their value for those with chronic schizophrenia is in the initial stage, with research data largely lacking. The purpose of this study was to examine the positive impact of a mental fitness program for patients with chronic schizophrenia so as to determine the feasibility of its use in mental health field.
During the 10 weeks Participants were divided into experimental and control groups of 20 patients each.
The experimental group participated in a 10-week mental fitness program based on the principles of positive psychology, after which positive emotions were assessed in both groups. The results showed increased positive emotions and decreased negative emotions in the experimental group compared with the control group. Thus, the applicability of such programs to the rehabilitation of patients with chronic schizophrenia was confirmed. Rather than piecemeal interventions, practical forms of treatment that improve psychological health, social integration, and life satisfaction are needed to promote the recovery of patients with chronic schizophrenia.
